About Kunming

As one of China‚Äôs most diversified provinces, Yunnan is certainly one of China‚Äôs most alluring destinations. Yunnan is home to more than one third of China‚Äôs ethnic minorities and over half of the country‚Äôs plant and animal species. The province is blessed by its mixture of traditional folk cultures as well as breath-taking scenery. Kunming, Yunnan‚Äôs capital, resides at an elevation of 1890m and boasts a milder climate than most other Chinese cities. Celebrated as the "Spring City," Kunming has neither severe winters nor extremely hot summers and can be visited at any time of the year.

Dianchi: is a plateau lake with beautiful scenery. The lake is 40 by 8 kilometers and is 1,886 meters above sea level. The lake water and the sky seem joining mutually like a city sea, dense mist and rolling water are on the surface of the lake, and sails are strolling above the water. It claims to be a pearl on the Yungui Plateau. It is the largest lake in Kunming. The west side of the lake is the mountain forest, while on the east side are lands dotted with the fisheries and agribusinesses. Traditional fishing boats still sail on the lake. The most beautiful view appears at dawn and sunset. The ocean-like lake is the best place to go for those people who wish to get away from the bustling city and be close to the nature.

Stone Forest: is known as the First Wonder of the World. Youll marvel at its natural stone masterpieces and be bewitched by the intricate formations. The Stone Forest is in Lunan Yi Nationality Autonomous County, which is about 120 kilometers (75 miles) from Kunming and requires only a three-hour drive.    Kunming Camellia festival: has been the designated flower of the historical and cultural Kunming since 1983. Through the years it has not only become an iconic symbol of the city but also a tourist attraction. Early in 1954, the first camellia festival of Kunming was organized in the Green Lake Park, exhibiting about 2,000 pots of camellias. By the 1960s, camellias could be seen in numerous parts of Kunming's streets and today Dongfengdong Road is planted with camellias. The Camellia garden that was unveiled at the end of December occupies an area of 1,500 square meters and is situated in Green Lake Park (Cuihu Park). The garden will consist of over 400 Camellia plants of which 30 are very precious species and will be permanently kept at the park. For this years festival over 10,000 pots of Camellias and 300,000 pots of flowers of a different species will be used to create 14 scenic sights and 125 floral designs in the park. The beautiful blossoms attract visitors from all around the world!
